Alice and Wonderland - Narrative

After watching a captivating performance of the enchanting book from a theatre company in September as well as getting the privilege of watching the films back in July, the children worked hard to retell the narrative. Our class, in particular, focused on the segment where Alice encounters the mysterious Cheshire Cat. 

Alice and Wonderland - Diary

Using the vocabulary and knowledge gained from the previous unit, we utilised our skills and showcased them in the form of a diary. Firstly, we worked together to write a diary entry from Alice's perspective about falling into the magical world of Wonderland. Following the relaxing half-term break, the children constructed their own diary entry again from Alice's perspective about the familiar section of the story: meeting the Cheshire cat. 

Journey - Narrative

Journey by Aaron Beaker is a beautifully illustrated, wordless book series that follows the story of a young girl, who embarks on an extraordinary adventure through a magical door she created with her own crayon. Together we explored the wonderful illustrations and crafted the words to tell this recount. After working together on the beginning of the story, the children finished off this tale for their independent write. 

Wizard of Oz - Review

During the Autumn term, the students had the delightful opportunity to attend a performance of "The Wizard of Oz" pantomime at the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering. The timeless tale centres around Dorothy's quest to find her way back home, encountering whimsical characters who help her rediscover her true self. Infused with laughter and magic, the pantomime offered numerous humorous moments for the audience to enjoy. Following the performance, we wrote our own review of the performance critiquing the costumes, sets, audience participation which encouraged the children to articulate their opinions but also writing in a more formal tone for their independent write.

Geri's Game - Character Description

Geri's Game is a Disney Pixar short which shows a story set in an autumn park in the centre of a city, whereby an elderly man plays a solemn game of chess with an opponent. However, there is no opponent there and it transpires that he is simply playing a game with himself. Using these two characters, the children wrote different descriptions of Geri and his non-exsistant brother, Gerald describing their appearance and personality as well as this captivating setting.
